View Full Version : My Application
Hi,
I live in Australia and know some computer programming. I've studied programming and scratch ( scratch is not that good as programming I have to say ;) ) and have touched on some c# I think.
Just as many people who have joined this X2: Pandora, I really like x2. It is strategic, puzzling, tricky, and kinda addictive and most importantly fun. ( although I don't play that much ) At the moment I'm reading the MSCI handbook for X2 to see and understand the programming language. I am pretty good at coming up with ideas as a lot of people are.
My aim is to help in this production which people say would take years. I could do some modding - once i read and understand the manual and i could do some media work.
I am doing this to help with my studies and also to people who would want to play this mod when its finished. I think this mod is a very good idea as many of the forums - such as solar power plants that actually look like solar power plants. I would just like to have fun whilst doing a hobby and also learning at the same time.:thanks:
Cheers,
Jono aka; TRAT513 :thanks:

you can program and mod ships? O.o two reasons why I can't deny your application :D
From my part I have nothing agains and if the others are OK with it too we'll see. If you're going to script it was best if you talk with Chris, he is our only scripter atm... If you want to create ships feel free to ask me - I somehow revealed most of the possibilities here :whistling:

And don't wonder when noone ansers for some time (as in the chatbox). you're about 12h ahead of us :P

Yes, you're in. Welcome to the X2 Pandora Team :D
You should have full access (if not, please contact me).
To Gravemind:
The Programming Languages that I am used to is 'Blocked' C++ and Pascal
and for modding designs, i need to read the MSCI X2 manual to see what is
'specs' for X2
To Shadow Dream:
Atm i am still learning what the X2 programming language is via the MSCI
handbook and as for the design im also reading the part of modding design
in the handbook as well :D
oh and btw aka means also known as.
lol 12 hrs ahead. :P
To administtrators:
Thank you for accepting my application. I am really happy :D:D:D

modeling is something you have to learn by tutorials.
I recomend you:
GMax (http://files.turbosquid.com/Products/L567271/XFM83W83US/gmax12.exe) to create the models and Tutorial (http://files.turbosquid.com/Products/L567281/YVES9KYKPA/gmax12_tutorials.exe) for gmax so you can learn the basics of how to make models. You can post pictures of your models anytime you want or ask questions. I guess it's better to let you practice with the program before bothering you with game-details ;)
BTW: If you're going to make ships and stations: which race would you like to make? Boron, Paranid, Pirate, Teladi and Kha'ak are taken already.

The Modding Doku sucks - except for a few pages that contain very valuable information for advanced modding. But that doesn't help at the very beginning.
The best information is on Egosoft Forums. And of course the knowledge we acquired :D .
The MSCI handbook on the other side is very good. Read it carefully. But as with modding, the best we to learn is to do - and to look what others have done.
If you're interested in helping scripting, pay special attention to the following chapters:
- 5.2 Scripts as Commands
- 7. Advanced Topics, especially 7.2 Concurrency, Interrupts, and Atomic Operations. This last chapter is essential, because it explains what is the most important script instruction, and why: wait or wait randomly. (BTW: The second most important instruction is <retvar> = <object> -> exists).

Yeah, throw that modding documentation away and learn from our Moddingking :hail:Chris Gi :hail:.
To ShadowDream:
I will have a look at GMax and the Tutorials, thanks for the links :) And when i start to make ships, ill design Argon i think :) Got to get some practice first :D
To Chris:
I will read those chapters soon :)
