Are there any other screenshots of ships other than the 12 in the gallery?

nope sry our best 3D model artist is gone and he got much new ships for the mod but we dont got the files of the ships :( :( :( :(

I just uploaded some more pictures: Khaak Clusters, the argon ships by Matrix, and a picture of a hornet missile with trail.
And I did a little trip to the pirates to bring back an first impression of fights (in the screenshot section).

The Argon Buster MK2 uses an engine trail that is intended for use with Split ships. This is some work in progress. I don't like the cockpit textures on the Argon Models, I will replace them with the transparent texture seen on the Boron Octopus (used by many models).

SWAHILI!!!

I just saw them, and they look great!
However, the second picture of the Kha'ak Cluster doesn't work, it only loads about the first inch of the picture, then the rest is blank.

The sector backgrounds look really cool!

Chris Gi

Fixed it! Thanks for the hint!

Edit:
I just realized it's the same picture as Khaak_Cluster5, so I removed it.

Just saw the new screens.

The transparency patch is pretty cool!

Uploaded a picture of Teladi Phoenix with a new texture. What do you think of the new texture? I'm not sure about it....

Well, I think that the phoenix looks pretty good.

Keep up the good work!

Looks pretty good!

Did you see the screens of Nathan's Vision under the Pandora Screenshots section of the gallery?

I am very proud to say that I modded that sector using the Galaxy Editor :D

I've changed some other sectors, but Chris is having problems finding them (tech problems in the directions), and he said he might take some screenshots of the other sectors I made (I can't, don't know how to take screenshots on a mac, or if its even possible).

Cheers,

21.03.2008, 23:07
Thanks.

I've been working on other sectors, too. I'm not sure of the names though, (I don't have a 't' file for the map, so all I get is 'Sector 18-03 and stuff like that).

I'm currently working on placing asteroids in the sector (location on grid= 17- 8 ), and I think it looks pretty good, but I'm not done yet.

When I'm finished, I'll make a recording, e-mail it to Chris Gi so he can take screens of it, then he could post it in the gallery.

Off to continue modding,

Just uploaded some pictures of sectors worked on by SWAHILI!!! (in the screenshots gallery). I really like them, the color of the asteroids is really good!

I did a few changes to the 1809-Sector (no name currently because I made a mistake in the naming - it's a Paranid sector, I gave it a Boron name ;( ). It was very interesting: I changed a planet, background and a nebula with in-game GE, and I had to step through several backgrounds and nebulae. Very interesting how different a sector looks with different combinations.

@SWAHILI!!!
Don't put too much work in mapping atm. IMHO, it's better to wait for the nebulae textures, planets and backgrounds. It looks so much different with all that stuff.

BTW: I'm away the next few days ('til Monday). Have you good time, everybody 8o :) 8)

SWAHILI!!!
22.03.2008, 02:49
Well, really all I'm doing is adding asteroids.

For some reason, I think that sectors with lots of asteroids look really cool.

Edit 1:
I just looked in the gallery and when I saw this one:
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/9237/sektor18091eu9.jpg
I was almost stunned.
Holy crap that's cool!
Is that one of mine, Chris?

Edit 2:
I guess that is one of mine!
I've been working on a few more, when I've finished, I'll e-mail the map to you.

Chris Gi
22.03.2008, 10:12
This IS one of your's ! I just did a little editing to make it look a litte different, to show how a sector could look with Pandora.

I have a few ideas on going further in modding, but to realize these idea will take a while. I guess I have to change every single background to get these to work. But this will give as about 8 totally new backgrounds.
And I will try to change some of the nebulae. One way to achieve this is to change textures, which I've already started as you can see on this pic from the ships gallery:
http://gallery.x2-pandora.de/cache/cache_Ships/th_Boron_Barrakuda_MK2_Back.jpg

But I don't like some of the nebulae and I want to totally replace them. Oh well, so much work needs to be done...

Uploaded pictures of SWAHILI's new work on Sector 12-10. I think the pictures just aren't enough to express the beauty of this sector.

@Swahili: I moved the planet closer to the center of the sector. What do you think? I'd move the other planet away from the center. I looks like a moon, but the size is wrong to feel like a moon (if you understand what I mean).

Graceburn
26.03.2008, 11:31
i no that a sector based in the center of a 'roid field with a really massive planet to the side is truly a sexy thing, but i hope some of the sectors are 'roid free. (or partially at least)

Chris Gi
26.03.2008, 11:54
This will depend on YOU!

What I mean by this: The Pandora Map uses a modified version of the standard map, with additional sectors. The sectors included with the standard map still have the same asteroids. Some of the new sectors are full of asteroids, but only a few. Most sectors are almost void.
Pandora uses scripts to build the universe. If you start a new game, stations and asteroids are placed by scripts all over the universe.
There is a special configuration file. By means of this file you can influence, how many stations and asteroids are built. This way you can achieve a universe with no additional roids except those predefined on the map.

Graceburn
26.03.2008, 12:00
Oh, wow! does this mean that each user of Pandora will have the same, yet different, universe. This is a really great idea, and as i am writing this i had another idea, do you think if everyone sets their universe config file to the same, maybe a special, secret one, it could unlock a multiplayer feature? or is this just to big to truly realise?

Chris Gi
26.03.2008, 12:27
A Multiplayer feature is not possible in X2 (or X3), because it's not part of the game engine. Thus no mod will ever add this feature as long as the source code of X2 is not openly available.

But you're right: every player will have it's own universe. Each time you restart you get a new universe. It's a little bit like the very first time you played X2. You don't know the good places to build a factory anymore, because each time it's different.
And there's another advantage of this feature: you can tweak your universe to the PC you're using.
And you can influence how big sectors are.

Chris Gi

I don't know what SWAHILI!!! had in mind modding this sector. But I think this sector's much too interesting to let it stay an "Unknown Sector" without any further use in the story line....

SWAHILI!!!
26.03.2008, 15:15
Okay, I was wondering how many people would question that thing there, Adlantis.

The sector is supposed to be (at least what I had in mind at the time I was making it), an ancient and slightly primitive race's mining colony. That's why if you look here:
http://gallery.x2-pandora.de/cache/cache_X2%20Pandora%20Mod%20Screenshots/th_SWAHILI_Sector1210_3.jpg
and here:
http://gallery.x2-pandora.de/cache/cache_X2%20Pandora%20Mod%20Screenshots/th_SWAHILI_Sector1210_2.jpg
There are drills everywhere on the really big asteroid.
So this thing here:
http://gallery.x2-pandora.de/cache/cache_X2%20Pandora%20Mod%20Screenshots/th_SWAHILI_Sector1210_5.jpg
Is supposed to be a highly primitive space station guarded by two (deactivated) drones. You can fly through the tunnel and everything, it's pretty cool.
Oh, and for any of you that are wondering, this here:
http://gallery.x2-pandora.de/cache/cache_X2%20Pandora%20Mod%20Screenshots/th_SWAHILI_Sector1210_4.jpg
Is a 'man-made' asteroid belt.

Oh, and @ Chris Gi, do you think you could try to fly way out far away from the center of the sector so we can get a really good look at that planet? It looks pretty tight.

Edit Chris Gi:
Fixed picture links.

Chris Gi
26.03.2008, 16:41
Ok, I can take another screenshot this evening.

Mind if we give this sector a prominent role in the story line of Pandora? The sector needs to be on a different place, then.

SWAHILI!!!
26.03.2008, 16:53
Sure, I'd love it if that sector got an important role in the storyline.

And what do you mean by 'needs to be on a different place'?

Chris Gi
26.03.2008, 16:59
Great.
I'm not sure which sector this should be. But if we use it, it will change position with another sector, and no longer be on coordinates 12,10.

SWAHILI!!!
26.03.2008, 20:19
But the whole sector will stay the same, right?

Chris Gi
26.03.2008, 21:36
The only thing that could change are gate positions depending on the sector's final location.

Chris Gi
27.03.2008, 00:46
Uploaded another picture from sector 12-10, this time from above.

SWAHILI!!!
27.03.2008, 01:54
Just saw it, looks good!
Are there any screenshots of what the gates look like in Pandora?
From the current screens, they look different.

Chris Gi
27.03.2008, 10:53
Right, the gates look different. The gates are made by an ancient race, but looked like Argon technology. Thus I started remodelling them. But they're not finished. They need to get remodelled and retextured. I didn't have any time to do this up to now. Once they're ready, I will make screenshots. Right now, you have to wait 'til alpha version of the mod to get a glimpse of what they may look like.

Depending on the decision, if we use super gates or not, they need more or less remodelling...

Dagobert
27.03.2008, 17:54
A Multiplayer feature is not possible in X2 (or X3), because it's not part of the game engine. Thus no mod will ever add this feature as long as the source code of X2 is not openly available.Even if you modified the source code you'd need a server (or two or three^^), and servers are expensive ;) .

I went through the X3 textures yesterday, and I found the textures used for this planet. And I have an idea how to build this in X2. But I'm not sure it will work. We'll see. I will test it as soon as version V 0.10 is uploaded.

Nice you like the background. This was just the outcome of an hour's work. And it's one of those backgrounds that doesn't work in X2.
But that is just a glimpse of what I have in mind. I don't know when I will start the real work... :D

SWAHILI!!!
09.04.2008, 22:39
I have tons of ideas in my head, but there aren't any pictures of what I think they should look like.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this mod in action, it looks absolutely incredible, especially that galaxy background!

I have another request about the Mustafar planet: could it be like the planet in sector 12-10 that looks better up-close to a sector than it does far away? Because I want to try to make it so that the lava planet in that sector will be about as close to the sector as the ones in the pictures I showed, but if not, that's fine!

Keep up the amazing work, mod team!

The docking computer can still handle this, even though it may not look like....

By the way nice picture, too many asteroid for my taste, but as you said, they appear randomly.

They are set up by scripts that are customizable. The amount of asteroids that are build can be set in an ini-File! I usually use very high values to test out the positioning algorithm and overall performance - and I like it that way, it gives a feeling of those X3-asteroids. But not every PC can handle so much asteroids. That's why the amount can be tweaked - and because it should be possible to get a universe to your liking. There are a lot of values that can be changed: number of stations per sectors, position of the gates, the 'form' of the sector and some more.

does Earth will appear in this mod?

I don't think so. We wanted to keep earth in X3-TC (and XTM). Even if it would be nice to have it, somehow there isn't anything special with it anymore... everyone wants earth here, there, everywhere. Where would be the fun finding it?

Actually in-game (and you can see it on the screen if you look carefully) this planet looks very habitable.

does Earth will appear in this mod?

As Shadow Dream said, we want to leave Earth for X3TC. Earth doesn't really fit in the overall X story the moment X2 takes place.
Furthermore, there is a technical problem: Earth needs a texture. It isn't possible to add new textures to X2. All one can do is replace existing textures. There is a small workaround for this. But this has a backdraft: a considerable part of Pandora was changing standard models to look more or less the way they looked in vanilla X2 -- even though they are new! This is a funny thing - to make changes to stuff that noone really will know - unless they have very good knowledge of the modding process.
Anyway, I'm sure you can imagine, how precious room for textures is - and Earth-texture should be used only one time in the game!
