Default My Application

hey people,

well then here is my application, I had already posted something on the Egosoft forums and have had some communication with Shadow dream. oké about me and x2; years ago I ran into a game called X2, while following the X series with X3 and X3TC, I had to conclude that X2 was just simply better than its sequels; inside station docking, an actual story, "interaction" with characters.
anyways now really about me, for now i am more a model maker which is also the thing i like most when creating a mod, and is (in my opinion) the easiest

i started out with gmax, but since my 3ds max does not really wanna run that good on my pc which has X2 installed, i'll probably go back to gmax, because i also understood you all worked with gmax?

yeah, we work with gmax only because it's simple, free and can what we need (and more )

For my part you can join - you'll do the split, right? (just to have it here too )

If you're willing to contribute, you're more than welcome.

Actually, it doesn't really matter if you're using gmax or 3ds max. Using gmax may be better because sharing models is easier and we all have some experience with gmax and may be able to give some hints if you're stuck.

Besides, the Split aren't the only race without an explicit modder. There are also Xenon - as well as some more models for Argon (and I don't mind if someone else takes responsibility for the Khaak models).

Have you ever modelled stations?

hehe right, forgot that still it's your decision which you'd like to make. we have left:
Argon (some are done by Matrix who has probably gone )
Split (made by gracebrun but only vanilla-bodies - we'd like to replace them)
Kha'ak (Fighters made by Chris, but he does coding only now)
Xenon (some BTF-models are in use now and minor changes by Chris)

concerning the stations we want to replace at least the basic ones (shipyard, trading center, Equpment Dock, Solar Power plant) but you're free to create as many as you want

although I'm quite okay with creating an entire fleet, just my question is, is my "creative mind" free to do what it likes? or do you have specific ideas?
i mean i saw the split larger ship made by #name_here# for example:
if i create a split figther will it be with sharp edges? (probably yes)
and how do you prefer the cockpits? will we create custom cockpits oder?
beside i think it's cool if the ships have some different 'weapondummies' if you know what i mean

Yes

While there are certain stereotypes for each race, you are free not to follow them. At least that is what I did. Paranid Ships don't have the Insect-look anymore

But it shouldn't be the polar opposite either (like huge Bunny-shaped Ships for the Split ). There probably should be a hint of aggressiveness present in the Split models.

Well, both yes and no.
We already have certain concepts of the use of certain ship classes. For example, we have a heavy bomber class and we are trying to adopt the design of the ship to this ship class.
And we decided that each modeller should do a certain race, because we all have different styles. This way we get a more consistent look of each race's ships and stations.
These "rules" have the character of general guidelines. We're open-minded.

Yes. I haven't started this yet, but I have in mind to change the inner cockpit of all my models to fit the outer appearance.

Unlike X3, this is almost impossible in X2. There are only 4 animated weapons, and animation is very restricted. Not much we can do here.
With regards to fixed weapons, there's no limitation here. Even the 106/107.bod can (better: have to) be replaced when modelling a ship.

I don't recomend starting with cockpits, though they are made as easy as ships or stations (or difficult, as you see it). It's just that it helps to know WHAT will have this cockpit. attaching a cockpit to the ship is easier than the other way round - in my oppinion.
the simplest thing might be starting with stations since they don't need any big "accessoirs", just a docking point and lights ships are no big difference, they just need more things as the turrets, trails and stuff...

i'm a bit confused , do you mean with fixed weapons like the ones who are mounted on the sides of the X2 discoverer?

No, this is an animated weapon: the barrel moves in and out an the mounting. The mounting is this 106.bod I was talking about, and the mountain can be changed in Pandora (unlike vanilla).
I mean "fixed" in the sense that they are neither animated nor move according to your view when you're in an turret. Some Xenon and Khaak fighters use this kind of weapon. For example:


Those blue barrels are actual weapons that aren't animated and that don't change direction depending on your view.
